Our crews are expert in the art of planting trees and shrubs.
They are trained in the placement of trees and shrubs, the preparation of proper planting holes and planting media; the proper positioning of plant materials in their holes; and the
stabilization of larger trees. For instance, one of the most overlooked requirements for new plantings is not only the width of the hole, but the critical height of the root ball and trunk flare in that hole.
In order to insure the success of our plantings, we prefer to amend the soils in the hole with Moo Plant™ Tree and Shrub Mix which is a perfect blend of composted cow manure and peat packaged in Middlebury, Vt.
If we are planting where watering is difficult because of access or because the homeowner is absent most of the time, we also amend the soil with a miracle product called Gelscape™. This polymer absorbs many times its weight in water and releases it slowly to keep the plant’s roots moist between waterings.
The idea behind establishing new plantings is to encourage the quick growth of new ‘feeder roots’ that enable the tree or shrub to get nutrients and water into its cell structure quickly and easily. To encourage this process, we also like to mix a product called Mycor Tree Saver™ into the planting medium. This product is a naturally ocurring ‘mychorrizae root fungus’ that helps the feeder root growth development.
